The Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), in collaboration with the Eswatini Economic Policy Analysis and Research Centre (ESEPARC), recently convened a stakeholder validation session for the review of the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy.
The engagement brought together representatives from government, academia, industry, and development partners to reflect on the progress made under the current policy framework and to contribute insights towards strengthening the country’s national innovation system.
The review process provides an important opportunity to assess achievements across priority sectors while identifying systemic gaps that may be limiting the full potential of science, technology and innovation in driving economic transformation. Discussions focused on how Eswatini can strengthen research and innovation infrastructure, improve coordination across institutions, and ensure that the policy framework responds effectively to emerging technological and economic realities.
Participants also highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, strengthening industry, academia linkages, and establishing sustainable financing mechanisms that can support research, innovation, and technology development over the long term.
Through these collaborative discussions, stakeholders are contributing to the development of a strengthened STI Policy that will guide Eswatini’s transition towards a more knowledge-driven and globally competitive economy.
