Today, the Eswatini Economic Policy Analysis and Research Centre (ESEPARC) held a Data Protection Awareness Session for staff, focusing on responsible data handling and introducing data mapping as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal data governance and compliance.
The session highlighted the importance of protecting personal data throughout its lifecycle, from collection and storage to use and disposal, and reinforced that data protection is a shared responsibility across the Centre. Staff were also introduced to the concept of data mapping as a practical tool to better understand what data ESEPARC holds, where it is stored, and how it is accessed.
In addition to building awareness, the session provided an opportunity for staff to reflect on current practices, identify areas for continuous improvement, and align daily work with ethical research standards and legal obligations. This initiative forms part of ESEPARC’s broader commitment to safeguarding personal information, strengthening institutional accountability, and maintaining the trust of stakeholders and partners.
