Today, ESEPARC and the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs brought together key stakeholders from various sectors at Sibane Hotel to review and validate two important components of Eswatini’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP). The session focused on enhancing inclusive adaptation planning in response to the country’s growing climate challenges, including recurring droughts, floods, and heatwaves, all of which continue to threaten the livelihoods of vulnerable communities.

Key highlights from the discussions included the presentation of the revised National Criteria for Prioritising Adaptation Options, developed through broad consultations, expert interviews, and international benchmarking. This structured and transparent tool aims to ensure that future adaptation investments are equitable, feasible, and aligned with Eswatini’s national development goals.

The workshop also reviewed the Draft Adaptation Costing Framework, an essential tool designed to estimate the financial requirements for implementing adaptation measures. Drawing from Eswatini’s experience with the NDC Implementation Plan and aligned with global best practices, the framework supports evidence-based climate financing decisions by identifying funding gaps and advocating for resource mobilisation.

Stakeholders were invited to test and enrich both tools with their technical expertise, ensuring that Eswatini is better prepared to respond to the uncertainties of climate change through well-informed and practical adaptation strategies.
