In 2022, ESEPARC and the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Trade – Handicraft Department conducted a comprehensive baseline survey of handicraft producers in Eswatini. We are excited to share the findings of this survey through our latest infographic.
Key Insights:
- Economic Contribution: The handicraft sector is a significant driver of social and economic development, contributing to employment creation, income generation, community empowerment, and poverty reduction.
- Demographics:
- The sector is predominantly female, with women making up 86% of artisans.
- More than 60% of artisans are aged between 36 and 55 years.
- Regional distribution: 45% in Manzini, 27% in Hhohho, 16% in Lubombo, and 12% in Shiselweni.
